You will need a 2-5/8" weaving needle. These are available at stores such as A. C. Moore, as well as online.

Step 1: With the weaving needle on the bottom and the knitting needle on top, place the yarn between the two from front to back.

Step 2: Bring the yarn over the top, between the two needles, then under the wearing needle.

Step 3: Repeat Step 2 until you have the required number of stitches on the top needle.

Step 4: Thread the tail into the weaving needle.

Step 5: Pull the yarn through the loops on the weaving needle.

Step 6: You are now ready to spread the stitches over 3 needles. Hint: Distribute the stitches over just 2 needles. Work the first few rounds until you have 8 or 10 stitches on the needles; then distribute to the third needle.

Once you have knitted a few rounds, pull the tail snug to close up the hole and weave in the end.
